A couple of non-show things strike me here.

1. Weekends are going to be the hardest part of this journey. I typically spend a couple of hours every Saturday and Sunday listening to vinyl. I mean, if I don’t spend a few hours a week listening to records, how can I justify to my wife (and myself) the ever-growing collection? But with this project, I am going to have to forgo the records on some weekends. This is sad, but it’s the commitment I’ve made to the project.

2. Montreal has become one of my favorite cities to visit. I get up there a couple of times a year for work. If you’ve never been, don’t wait for an unlikely return visit by the Phish to drive you there. Make a long weekend of it. Bring your S.O. for an anniversary trip and eat your way through this delectable city. Hit up Schwartz’s for some smoked meat that will have you questioning Carnegie and/or Katz’s dominance in this department. Hit up Joe Beef or Au Pied de Cochon for the most decadently rich food you’ll ever have. Trust me. You’ll love this city.

But this ain’t no travel blog, so, on to the show!

Classic Jim>Foam opener. Fantastic, if predictable. Fluff?? Why not just dive right in, boys? Lots of hootin’ and hollerin’ in the crowd during this. You can feel the energy in the room.

The crowd also seems to love Julius – and it’s interesting to hear them play Julius without the horns for the first time. Gone are some of the vocal embellishments you heard on the album and at the Flynn show. Instead, it’s immediately less groove and more straight rocker. I think I mentioned yesterday, I’m really looking forward to listening to this songs evolution in its first year. That’s exactly the kind of thing I thought about when I decided to do this blog.

The first Tweezer of the year offers no hints of what Tweezer would do a month later in Dallas. If I Could is played for the the second time and comes to a relatively scorching peak. The rest of the show is typical greatness. Plus I just realized that in this process I will get to hear every version of I Wanna Be Like You! So, I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

I enjoyed this one. I think I can do this! Thanks for reading.
